Process & Standards

Jakarta, 2024 — The Koltun editorial review process was formalised in a six-step documentation framework. Each article moves through source assessment, specialist review, and fact-verification before publication. This page records that process in full.

01 / The Six-Step Review

How Each Article is Verified Before Publication

The Koltun publication process follows a structured six-step framework that governs every article regardless of topic category. Steps are sequential and non-negotiable. An article cannot advance to the next step until the prior one is fully documented.

This documentation structure originated from observations made across Jakarta's editorial and wellness sectors in 2021, where the absence of a formal review framework was identified as the primary cause of unreliable published content in men's lifestyle categories.

01
Topic Identification

Reader Need Assessment & Research Availability

Each topic begins as a candidate selected against two criteria: demonstrated reader need (based on direct correspondence and observed search patterns from Jakarta's wellness-active demographic) and sufficient published research availability to support a substantiated editorial position. Topics that fail either criterion are deferred until both are met.

02
Source Collection

Published Research Identification & Grading

Sources are gathered from peer-reviewed nutritional and sports science literature, qualified wellness practitioner publications, and documented population-level studies. Each source is graded by recency (priority to work published within seven years), sample size, and methodology transparency. Grey literature is accepted only when peer-reviewed alternatives are unavailable, and is always labelled accordingly.

03
Draft Composition

Structured Drafting with Inline Source Attribution

Drafts are written with all factual claims directly annotated to their source at composition stage. The Koltun style guide prohibits factual statements without a corresponding source reference in the working draft, even if that reference is later formatted or omitted in the published version. Opinion and inference are distinguished from documented findings using explicit framing language.

04
Specialist Review

Qualified Wellness Professional Assessment

The drafted article is reviewed by the Koltun lead specialist, whose formal qualifications in sports nutrition and applied wellness coaching provide the primary review standard. For articles covering specialist sub-domains outside the lead specialist's primary qualifications, a second-stage review by an identified qualified nutrition professional is conducted. Review findings are documented and preserved in the editorial archive.

05
Fact-Check Pass

Independent Verification of All Cited Claims

Following specialist review, a dedicated fact-check pass is conducted against the original source documents. Every numerical claim, attributed finding, and named research outcome is independently traced back to its source. Discrepancies identified during this stage require revision before the article advances. This step is never consolidated with the drafting or specialist review stages.

06
Publication & Archive

Versioned Publication with Revision Logging

Cleared articles are published with a date stamp and version number. Subsequent edits — including source updates, correction of identified errors, or additions prompted by new research — are logged with revision notes. Readers can identify the current version status from the publication metadata. Corrections are never silent; they are acknowledged and dated.

02 / Sourcing Standards

What We Use and What We Exclude

Source grading is applied to all evidence used in Koltun articles. The tier system is not a ranking of importance — it is a transparency tool that tells readers precisely what kind of evidence underpins each claim.

T1
Tier 1 — Peer-Reviewed Research

Published studies from nutritional science, sports performance, and applied wellness fields appearing in indexed journals. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are weighted most heavily within this tier. All Tier 1 sources are cited with author, year, and journal reference in the internal source file.

T2
Tier 2 — Qualified Practitioner Documentation

Published commentary, practitioner guides, and field observation records from individuals with formal qualifications in nutrition, sports science, or applied wellness coaching. These are used to contextualise Tier 1 findings within practical application settings, not as primary evidence for factual claims.

T3
Tier 3 — Observed Field Data

Documented observations gathered over six years of practitioner work within Jakarta's professional wellness sector. Used to identify locally-relevant patterns, contextualise population-level research for the Indonesian demographic, and provide qualitative framing for evidence-based recommendations.

Excluded — Brand-Originated Claims

Claims originating from product manufacturers, supplement distributors, or any entity with a commercial interest in the content area are excluded from the source pool regardless of presentation quality. Press releases, brand white papers, and influencer-cited content are not accepted as evidence sources under any circumstances.

03 / Correction Policy

Errors Are Acknowledged, Dated, and Corrected

When an error is identified in published content — whether by the editorial team, a reader, or a qualified reviewer — the correction process is activated within 48 hours of verification. Corrections are never silent. Each amended article carries a correction note at the top of the text with the date, a description of the change made, and a brief account of the original error.

Corrections are categorised as Minor (formatting, punctuation, non-substantive phrasing) or Substantive (factual change, source substitution, position revision). Substantive corrections are also logged in the Koltun editorial archive and reported in the next quarterly review summary.

Readers who identify potential errors are encouraged to write to [email protected] with the article title, the specific claim in question, and any available counter-evidence. All submissions receive a response within five working days.
